Christian Education at Ovilla Christian: a three-fold approach

Christian education is unique in the educational world in its focus on the formation of the whole student—spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially—into a fully devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, well prepared for life in the world while not being of the world.

Spiritual life requires cultivation and nurturing, and this begins in the student’s home. Parents are the first and primary teachers of their children as they seek to bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Ovilla Christian School will continue this work and cultivate an environment in which followers of Christ may flourish as they become life-long learners and servant leaders.

We expect OCS families to be actively involved in a local church body, as this is vital for the health of the Christian. Your school community is not a substitute for membership or active involvement in a church.

Our Approach to Spiritual Formation in a Student

Chapel: Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools come together once a week for their separate chapels. While Mr. Lehmann, Spiritual Life Director, is the normal speaker, he also lines up other school leaders, people from Ovilla Road Baptist Church, and other trusted community adults to present to students. Our Middle and Upper School student-led worship teams lead the chapel program in praise and worship. Once a quarter, we have an all-school chapel and we participate annually in the ACSI Day of Prayer and See You at the Pole.

Bible Classes: Our Bible classes are structured to give an OCS graduate a comprehensive view of the Bible as one cohesive narrative that centers on Jesus Christ. This includes One Story Ministries in Lower School; overviews of the Old and New Testaments in Middle School; and an introduction to Biblical Theology, Hermeneutics, Systematic Theology, and an in-depth study of the Gospels in Upper School.

Servant Leadership: The Upper School students are nominated to lead within their classes as Eagle Reps, who meet periodically with administration and serve as representatives of their classes. Our Eagle Pal program pairs a Middle or Upper School student with a student in Lower School to foster a relationship between the older and younger ages. The friends sit together at all-school chapels and spend time together at designated Eagle Pal afternoons.
